Fishing Report - February 13, 2018

With winter being in full tilt and ice conditions all over the place fishing has been tough in some spots.  It has been very good in some spots as well.

The Grand River in Dunnville has been stead this winter with a good number of pickeral coming out of the river.  Most anglers are catching walleye on a jigging spoon tipped with a minnow or a minnow head. The bite seems to be an early morning bite or a late afternoon bite.

Lake Simcoe has been hit and miss depending on where you go.  Beaverton has had some decent sized perch on live bait such as minnows and maggots. Iwent out there myself and found it tough to get numbers of fish but did catch a few decent keepers.

Lake Nipissing continues to produce great amount of walleye through the ice.  Catching a walleye to keep can be tricky as the slot limit is tough to keep fish.

This past weekend was the Binbrook crappie derby which had a good turn out.  The conservation area has been producing a great number of perch this year.  Crappie have been tougher to catch this year than in the past.  The perch fishing has more than made up for it.

The Valens ice fishing derby is this weekend on Saturday February 17, 2017 from 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the conservation area.   For more information call the park at (905) 525-2183.  Good luck to all that go.

Tight lines everyone!
